Outback Steakhouse Closes 41 Restaurants

In 2024, one of the most impactful stories in the restaurant industry was the decision by Bloomin’ Brands, the parent company of Outback Steakhouse, to close 41 underperforming restaurants. This move came after a review of their asset base, as mentioned by David Deno, the CEO of Bloomin’ Brands. The closures predominantly affected older locations with leases dating back to the ‘90s and early 2000s.

Panera Bread's Menu Transformation

Panera Bread made headlines in 2024 with what they touted as the 'biggest menu transformation in history.' The popular bakery-cafe chain introduced nine new menu items and revamped existing recipes and portion sizes, resulting in a total of 20 updates across their menu offerings. Among the additions were items like the Toasted Italiano sandwich and the Southwest Chicken Ranch salad, designed to cater to evolving consumer preferences and culinary trends.

KFC's Saucy Concept

KFC also grabbed attention with the launch of a new concept named Saucy in 2024. This innovative dining destination, unveiled in Orlando, Florida, focused on chicken tenders paired with a variety of 11 sauces—a clever nod to KFC’s iconic Original Recipe with its 11 herbs and spices. The Saucy concept aimed to offer customers a flavor-forward experience, catering to the ongoing demand for unique and customizable menu options.
