Historical Impact of E. coli O157:H7

The strain of E. coli O157:H7, which is suspected in the recent foodborne illness cases linked to McDonald’s, has a long history of causing outbreaks in the foodservice industry. Notably, in 1992-93, this strain triggered a widespread outbreak that affected 732 individuals across four U.S. states. The outbreak was specifically attributed to 73 Jack in the Box restaurants located in California, Idaho, Nevada, and Washington, illustrating the devastating consequences of this particular strain.

Texas Roadhouse’s Sales Growth

In stark contrast to the challenging landscape faced by many in the industry, Texas Roadhouse has demonstrated remarkable resilience and success. The company reported an impressive 8.5% increase in same-store sales at their company-owned restaurants during the third quarter. Furthermore, their traffic saw a significant uptick of over 5%, showcasing a strong performance in both sales and customer footfall.

Expansion Plans by Texas Roadhouse

Capitalizing on their robust sales performance, Texas Roadhouse has announced plans to acquire 13 restaurants from a franchisee in the near future. These restaurants, located in Indiana, Ohio, and California, are expected to contribute approximately half a percent to the chain's average weekly sales volumes. This strategic move highlights Texas Roadhouse's ambition for growth and market expansion.
